Ninja were the most feared spies and secret agents of feudal Japan. They were instrumental in helping Oda Nobunaga unite the warring tribes into a nation. Masters of a wide variety of weaponry, intelligence gathering, espionage, sabotage, arson, poisons, and martial arts. There are many legends of their exploits and tales of high adventure infiltrating enemy warlord forts and strongholds. Creating fear and dissent among those who were within the besieged castle’s walls. Contaminating their water supply, setting fires and destroying food stores, anything they could do to disrupt the enemy forces and make it easier to capture or kill their leaders.
Ninja were, of course, trained to defend themselves against Guard Dogs, primarily because this was one of the many obstacles they might face when infiltrating an enemy stronghold. Guard Dogs of the 16th century were not the highly trained police and military sort of modern times, but were sufficiently savage and blood thirsty to be a threat. Many of the techniques they developed are still used by special military units today.
Topics Include:
The Japanese have always had a culture that encourages them to strive for perfection in all they do. So too with the Ninja. They made a science out of everything they did, studied it, analyzed it, polished and perfected it. This is why so many of their arts and rituals have survived for so many centuries. These techniques are merely one small example of the detail and precision applied to every aspect of their daily life.
It is not about killing dogs. Nor even about killing an evil warlord. It is about being able to reason out what must be done and doing it.
To be a Ninja, one must be strong, one must know, one must dare and one must be silent. The Ninja remained strong and persevered after the decimating Sword Hunt. They knew because they had sources of intelligence and were able to reason. They dared because they valued peace and harmony above all else. They were silent, taking no credit for what they had done.
