In an age of war, shadows shaped the fate of Japan.
Drawn from the hidden scrolls of the Kimitake lineage, a secret world beneath the chaos of the Sengoku period—where the rise of the Takeda clan and the fall of rivals were influenced by unseen hands, shifting alliances, and silent warfare.
This is not the story of those who stood in the light… but of those that operated in the shadows.
The Kimitake family lived far beyond the roads used by merchants and tax men, in a secluded settlement hidden among ridges, ravines, and old-growth trunks. To the outer provinces, when they were known at all, they were foresters, builders, and surveyors—hard-handed people who could judge slope, soil, and grain by touch alone. They cut paths through mountains, marked lines for bridges, raised halls that survived hard winters, and read the land with a precision that made lesser craftsmen seem half blind. But the life they showed the world was only the visible face of a deeper inheritance. Within their own bloodline, guarded by oath and silence, they preserved a tradition they called Kimitake Ninjutsu.
"A man who understood structure," the elder said, "Could also be taught to understand concealment. A man who knew how a house stood might also learn how it could be entered, crossed, weakened, or defended without leaving a trace. Such is the secret of invisibility!"
Unlike the better-known Iga and Kōga schools, Kimitake Ninjutsu focused less on direct combat and more on infiltration, observation, disguise, surveying, engineering, and the manipulation of human behavior. Agents studied under the Kimitake masters for more than a decade and was eventually granted full transmission of the art.
Upon returning to public life, they organized a network of craftsmen, builders, and laborers who traveled throughout the provinces. Over time, this intelligence network became known as “The Dark Hand.”
