If you are using a Walker, odds are you have limited mobility due to back and or leg pain and weakness. Bullies, robbers, muggers and thieves often see this as a weakness making you vulnerable to attack. Unaware that you are armed with a quite formidable weapon; and know how to use it. There are plenty of books on how to fight from a wheelchair, and many on how to use a cane to protect yourself, but none on how to use a Walker. UNTIL NOW!
Had a student recently who was having some back trouble. He was using a Walker for balance and lack of leg strength. Said he had a bit of difficulty getting used to not being able to use both hands and almost tripping before he got the hang walking with it. Naturally, he thought of how someone in his position could defend themselves if attacked. Went online and found only one example by an Australian MMA fighter who had one technique, swing the Walker back and forth. So, we tried it, and found it to be singularly useless. Swinging the Walker from side to side is not a strong technique. It requires good balance and considerable arm strength; and opens you to attack every time the legs of the Walker are not in front of you. Furthermore, the Bully can often grab the Walker by one of the extended legs as it goes by and disarm you.
So, we developed a series of self-dfense techniques that are effective:
The Reader may find these techniques too brutal to contemplate. However, when faced with a life-or-death situation, there are no rules, only survival. This may be the cost.
“Never give up, never surrender. Better to die a broken piece of jade than live a life of clay.” Bruce Lee
Mike Tyson once said: “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.”
Iron Mike is right. During a real fight, you will experience an adrenaline dump, tunnel vision, distorted time. Forget fancy or intricate movements. Rely on the basics that work. And drill the basics until you can do them in your sleep. Then you can make the Bully’s eyes water.
